Nestled within an industrial mixed-use building on a bustling road, this clinic presents a striking contrast to its surroundings. The approach is gradual, with the entrance along a thoroughfare leading you past a building services wholesaler. Up two floors, you’ll find yourself in the dimly lit, nondescript core of the building. Then, a small logo “amplecare” signals the direction to a curvilinear, skin-colored oasis designed around a central void.
This intentional transition sets the stage for a space that offers respite and a distinct break from the outside world. Natural light is carefully directed inward, creating a soft, indirect glow that skims the natural materials and textures fostering a sense of psychological tranquility and warmth. The curved skin-like walls feature are plastered with a semi-rough texture reminiscent of earthenware, adding to the biomorphic design that translates organic geometries into a spatial experience evoking a sense of softness.
The fluid spaces, filled with diffused and soothing light, provide an intuitive way to navigate the space. The curved walls guide you to the waiting area and surrounding therapy rooms behind the reception desk, eliminating the need for any signage.
Inside each treatment room, the color scheme and materiality continue. Inside, slim basins are suspended between walls, a modern glass-fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) element inspired by the local mejjilla (a porcelain washbowl traditionally used for domestic washing). This essential element serves both hygienic and functional purposes, acting as a countertop for the specialist at work.
